A massively multi-player online game is a game with hundreds, if not thousands, of players, all on the same virtual server. Most MMOs tend to feature a large, persistent virtual world, while there are games that vary greatly in this aspect. There can be battle grounds within these virtual worlds, where two sides battle it out until one side prevails. In some cases, one team will be attempting to complete a mission, while another team is trying to protect their home base from being taken over by another team. Other than these based games, most MMORPGs offer PvE content or play-style options, where the focus is on things other than combat.
One of the most popular genres of MMO games is the Role Playing Game (Rpg). In these types of games, the player is required to engage in missions, solve puzzles, and take part in quests in order to level up and gain more experience. The player is also able to engage in combat against other players and sometimes against the AI of the game. Some of the most popular massively multi-player games in this genre are Final Fantasy, Xenogames, and World of Warcraft.
Another popular genre of massively multiplayer online game are the Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs). In these games, the player takes on the role of a character and can create their own character and go through the levels and choose some or all of the available classes. Classes can include fighter, thief, knight, mage, priest, and warrior. There are several other specializations as well, such as the “Unchivalric” character class, which has bonuses and powers only acquired through specialisations. These are often the only types of characters that can be customised.
Not all MMORPGs are single player, however. Some MMOSs allow multiple players to log in at the same time and are called massively multi-player online role playing games (MMORPGs). These feature numerous characters from across the globe who can each select their own class, acquire weapons, and engage in battles. Examples of popular massively multi-player games are Age of Conan and Aion.
While many MMOS function primarily as multiplayer browser games, others are designed for use with the World Wide Web, a world filled with billions of people all playing different MMORPGs at the same time. Some of the best MMORPGs for use with the internet include EverQuest, Ultima Online, Secret of Solstise, and Linea I and II. Other MMOS are designed with specific servers to host large scale multiplayer games like EverQuest. Others still use dedicated servers.
With the increasing popularity of massively multiplayer online role playing games, it is easy to see why they are so popular. Players from around the world can play together using the internet. There are no geographical restrictions, and entire cities can be populated by a handful of people. The high degree of interactivity found in MMORPGs is what makes them so fun to play.
